Forensic Chemist III, Harris County Institute of Forensic Science Trace Evidence Section

After attending Cedar Crest College for my undergraduate degree there was no question in my mind that I wanted to stay there for a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science as well.  I knew before starting the graduate program that it was the best program in the field of forensic science that I could ever hope for.
Cedar Crest College did not disappoint. The Master of Science in Forensic Science opens so many doors for students. The small size of the program allows every single student to get one on one attention from all of the faculty and staff and research opportunities that are rivaled by no other school. The students are all very close to one another and help each other, making it possible for everyone to reach their goals and become better students.
My research at Cedar Crest College was toxicology-based but the courses prepared me for any field in the forensic science profession. I entered my position in the Trace Evidence section of the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences nervous that it wasn’t my field of expertise. It did not take long to realize that Cedar Crest had more than prepared me to excel in trace evidence not just the sections that I had focused on with my research or undergraduate major.

My research at Cedar Crest College allowed me to present at and attend numerous professional meetings and conferences. I truly believe that those opportunities would not have been possible, in that magnitude, if I had attended any other graduate program. Those presentations highly impressed my employers and even though I am very new to the professional field, I have already been asked to participate in research opportunities at the lab.

The professional and nurturing atmosphere of the Cedar Crest College graduate program in Forensic Science is truly beneficial to anyone looking to work in the field. It prepared me to transition effortlessly and confidently into the  professional Forensic Science community I am confident in not only my abilities as a Forensic Chemist but also in the fact that with my education I can rise to leadership positions during my career and excel at those as well. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to attend the Cedar Crest College Forensic Science Graduate Program or the position that it helped me get.
