Innovation
Attending Cedar Crest College has definitely prepared me to go into the innovative field of forensic science. I’ve learned some of the most up-and-coming techniques for analyzing evidence. Some of the courses that I have taken have taught me techniques that are only just starting to appear in scientific articles. Courses that cover topics such as multivariate statistics in order to link evidence to known samples through multiple forms of analysis, are not commonly seen in the curricula of other schools.
The research program at Cedar Crest also helps students stay “ahead of the curve.” My research enables me to attend conferences where I meet vendors and see lectures on all of the newest procedures, instruments and techniques being introduced to labs around the country. Many of our assignments require literature searches on current techniques as well. The constant reading of articles and attending lectures has given me an idea of the newer techniques that I will see when I join the work force myself. I feel confident that I will be prepared to work in such an environment and potentially even bring innovative ideas to the table myself.
